Boys Basketball: Strong second half pushes Penn past Chesterton

Penn Senior Wing Maverick Brown scored 20 points – 18 in the second half – as the Kingsmen scored a 54-44 victory on the road against Duneland Conference power Chesterton in high school basketball action on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023.

Penn rallied from a 36-33 deficit after three quarters to claim the victory. The Kingsmen outscored Chesterton 21-8 in the final quarter.

Brown scored 11 points in the fourth quarter.

“The boys showed some real toughness and played with so much heart tonight,” Penn coach Barak Coolman said. “It was the true definition of a team win.

“Our defense was outstanding,” Coolman continued. “Winning at Chesterton is not an easy thing to do, and our boys earned the win.”

Senior sharpshooter Trey Miller scored 17 points for the Kingsmen.

Penn is 6-1. The Kingsmen are off until a Northern Indiana Conference showdown at South Bend St. Joseph on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2023. Chesterton is 4-3.
