Sophomore guards Joe Smith and Markus Burton combined for 55 points as Penn defeated New Prairie 76-60 in Northern Indiana Conference high school basketball action on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020.
Smith scored 28 points and Burton scored 27 points. Senior Caleb Applegate scored eight points.
In addition to his 27 points, Burton had 9 assists, five steals and six rebounds.
Smith connected on eight 3-pointers – five of them in the first quarter – as the Kingsmen roared to a 24-15 lead.
Burton finished off the Cougars. After New Prairie closed to 63-56, Burton went on a 9-0 run to give Penn a 72-56 lead with 3:00 left in the fourth quarter.
