Penn Boys Basketball works overtime for tough road win

Maverick Brown scored 13 points – 11 in the second half – as Penn defeated Northern Lakes Conference power Northridge, 57-59, in a high school boys basketball overtime battle on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024.

Penn held Northridge scoreless in the overtime period to earn a tough victory on the road.

Penn is 9-3 and Northridge is 10-4. The Kingsmen, 5-0 in the Northern Indiana Conference, return to NIC action on Friday at Marian.

“We talked about handling adversity before the game,” Penn Boys Basketball Head Coach Barak Coolman said. “This last few days we’ve had a really step our mental focus up and overcome the obstacles that Mother Nature has thrown at us.

“I was really proud of the toughness the players displayed at the end of the game and into overtime,” Coolman continued. “Northridge is tough team and I felt like we showed some real grit to be able to pull off a win in a hostile environment.

“Hopefully we can build on this and continue to improve as we head into the back half of the season.”

Trey Miller scored 12 points (on four 3-pointers) and Alexander Hawthorne scored nine points. Dominic Bonner contributed eight points to the Kingsmen victory.
