Boys Basketball: Penn seeks Sectional Three-Peat

Dominic Bonner scored 15 points and Penn continued its quest for a third consecutive Sectional Championship as the Kingsmen defeated host Elkhart, 52-43, in high school basketball state tournament action on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Northside Gym.

Penn (18-6) plays Warsaw (18-5) for the Sectional Championship. Tip-off for the Sectional title is set for 7 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Northside Gym.

Elkhart’s season ends at 3-20.

Penn will be playing in its fourth consecutive Sectional Championship game. Penn won Sectional Championships in 2023 and 2022, and was Sectional Runner-up in 2021.

Penn fought back from a 7-0 deficit to forge a 15-12 lead. The Kingsmen held the upper-hand throughout, but Elkhart never led the Kingsmen pull ahead by double-digits.

Trey Miller scored 12 points for Penn, and Maverick Brown contributed nine points. Alexander Hawthorne and Peyton Miamba scored six points each for the Kingsmen.

Elkhart’s Javeis Hines, who scored 20 points against Penn in a 55-49 Kingsmen victory on Feb. 16, was limited to six points by the Kingsmen on Friday.
