Nolan McCullough made a leaping steal with nine seconds left to help Penn lock up a 35-31 high school basketball victory against visiting Jimtown on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024.
Jimtown set up to inbound the basketball, trailing 33-31. The Jimmies lobbed a pass into the backcourt that McCullough soared to grab. He then dished the ball to Dominic Bonner who was sprinting down the lane and hit a lay-up for the 35-31 lead.
Penn trailed by 11 points, 19-8, but the Kingsmen fought back with a 15-4 run to pull even at 23-23.
Coach Barak Coolman’s Kingsmen outscored Jimtown 24-12 in the second half, and owned a 10-3 edge in the fourth quarter.
Maverick Brown led Penn in scoring with 12 points, and Dominic Bonner scored eight points. Bonner scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter.
Penn is 8-3 overall and remains unbeaten in the Northern Indiana Conference with a 4-0 record. Jimtown is 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the NIC.
Penn’s next game is at Northridge on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
