Boys Basketball: Burton torches City for 41 in Kingsmen win

All-State Candidate Markus Burton scored 41 points and the visiting Penn Kingsmen held off Michigan City, 86-81, Saturday, Dec. 18, in high school basketball action.

The Kingsmen improve to 7-0.

Three Junior Guards for the Kingsmen – Burton (41), Joe Smith (17) and Joey Garwood (12) combined for 70 of Penn’s 86 points.

Burton, a 6-foot-0 Junior Point Guard, hit 14-of-27 shots, including a 3-pointer. He was 12-of-13 from the free-throw line. Burton also dished out eight assists and grabbed seven rebounds.

Smith scored 17, which included a 10-of-10 effort at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Smith was 12-of-12 overall free-throw shooting.

Garwood connected on four 3-pointers for the Kingsmen.

Penn led by as many as 23 points, 50-27, but the Wolves charged back to trim the lead to three points with possession in the final minute.
