Fall baseball practices are laying the foundation for a strong upcoming season, giving players the chance to grow individually and as a team.
Senior pitcher Ben Dhaemers noted the importance of Fall Ball.
“It’s a good chance for us to get a feel of playing with each other,” Dhaemers said. “We practice a lot in the offseason, so we should be ready to go by the time the season starts.”
Dhaemers also emphasized how the daily grind is helping the group form closer bonds.
“Having practice and playing together brings us closer as a team every day,” Dhaemers said. “Tough practices and having fun together will start forming bonds among the team.”
Looking ahead, Dhaemers expects the team to lean on defense and pitching.
“I think we won’t have the same hitting as we did last year, and we’re going to have to rely on a strong defense and pitching rotation,” Dhaemers said.
Coach Dikos said that the fall is about more than just skills — it’s about preparing leaders and identifying roles.
“Our Fall emphasizes team building,” Dikos said. “Seniors learn what is expected from them. It is an adjustment period for them. I find out who will emerge as our team leaders.”
A major focus is defense and evaluating players in different roles.
“Defensive responsibilities are the main focus,” Dikos said. “I get an idea who will be my top nine or ten. We rotate positions to get looks from all our players. Together, both player and coach agree that the fall is critical for building chemistry, defining roles, and setting the tone for a successful spring season.”
