Baseball: Zach Plummer strives for success
On a sunny afternoon at Penn’s baseball field, Zach Plummer steps up to the plate.
With a team-high .429 batting average and .643 with runners in scoring position, it’s clear he knows what he’s doing — but it’s not just talent that gets him there.
“I just don’t let the pressure get to me,” Plummer said. “I think about where I want to hit the ball and have a plan before I step up instead of just hoping for the best.”
Plummer plays both outfield and middle infield, which makes him a huge part of the team. His off-season work shows why he’s so consistent.
“I just tried to take practice seriously, even when the season was far away,” Plummer saoid. “I never took reps off and just kept grinding to earn my spot.”
Plummer said that he looks up to MLB legend Derek Jeter.
“We play the same position,” Plummer said. “I try to learn from him because he was a great leader and teammate. That’s why his number is retired.”
Coach Mike Reynolds says Plummer’s impact goes beyond hitting.
“Zach talks to his teammates all the time,” Reynolds said. “He makes sure everyone knows where to go and what to do. That kind of leadership really helps the team.”
Zach Plummer isn’t just about stats. His calm approach, focus, and leadership show that baseball is as much about mindset and teamwork as it is about skill.
