Baseball: Spinsky puts in work in the off-season

Published on

When the last out of the season is recorded and the field goes quiet, most people move on. For players like Penn pitcher/infielder Caleb Spinsky, though, that’s when the real work begins.

While fans often see baseball as a spring sport, the truth is that success in the season is built long before the first pitch—during the cold, early mornings and long offseason afternoons that no one else sees. Spinsky, a Junior, has embraced that reality, turning his offseason into a proving ground for improvement.

One of the biggest priorities for Spinsky this offseason has been getting stronger. Baseball may not always look like a power sport, but strength plays a major role in everything from bat speed to throwing velocity.

He’s spent hours in the weight room, focusing on building core strength, leg power, and overall explosiveness. Squats, deadlifts, and rotational exercises have become part of his routine—not just to get bigger, but to become more efficient and athletic on the field.

“I put the work in daily,” Spinsky said.

Beyond the gym, Spinsky has been just as dedicated to refining his baseball skills. Time in the batting cage has helped him work on consistency, timing, and pitch recognition. Repetition after repetition, swing after swing, he’s focused on turning weaknesses into strengths.

As a pitcher, bullpen sessions have been key—dialing in control, improving mechanics, and building endurance. As a position player, fielding drills and throwing work have kept his glove sharp and his arm ready.
