Cross Country

Getting to Know: Caleb Hubbard

Published on

Caleb Hubbard is a Freshman at Penn High School.  He runs cross country during the fall and does track during the spring.  He likes to spend time with his family and friends in his free time.

What do you enjoy most about going to Penn and running Cross-Country for Penn? I enjoy the thrill of meeting new people performing at one of the top schools and getting to expand my horizons.

What does a weekday look like for you?  I usually wake up around 6:00, get to school, go through my school day, then I have cross country training, 3:30-5:30.  After that, I go home, eat dinner, do any homework, shower, then go to bed.

Are you proud of your performance in Cross-Country, why?   I am pretty proud of it.  I have reached above top 18 on the team and surpassed many upperclassmen I have wanted for a while.  I have placed well and I am happy with that.

Who inspires you to do what you do and why?  I’ve been running for a very long time, but performing and passing up my older brother is probably what inspires me the most.

Are you happy with your academic performance at Penn so far, why?  Yes, so far I have kept what I had in middle school which was all A’s for all three years, which I am very passionate about.  So far I have been able to keep this going at Penn.

What do you do to prepare for cross-country meets?   We have pasta parties the day before, so I go to the past parties, hang out, drink water, and eat pasta, bread, and carbohydrates are great for running.  At home, I have about 48 ounces of water.  I go to bed before 9:00 to get a good rest for the events.  If I have more time before the meeting I drink water. I have had a very bad experience with cramping in the past because I didn’t drink enough water.

What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of sports?  I don’t have much time outside of school and sports, but whenever I do, I either like to relax and watch shows, or play video games.

What are some goals you have for your 4 years in High School? For my four years in high school, I would like to maintain a 4.0 GPA, or higher since now that is possible.  I would like to get better at my sports, and join clubs, participate in the school, all in all, I would like to do the best I can.

What do you plan to do after high school?  I am hoping to go into the medical field and become someone who can do some good, either by researching new scientific things or becoming an anesthesiologist, that is something I would like to do, and I would like to go into a job that would make a difference.

Why do you do the sports you do at Penn?  All of middle school I did cross country and track, because I wanted to stay active, and healthy.  When I got to Penn I had to choose between Cross Country and Soccer, I did both in middle school, and I decided by asking my older brother, who had seen me do both sports, and he recommended I go with cross country, as he felt I was more passionate and enjoyed that more.
