Being a student-athlete is already a challenge.
For Anna McCullough, balancing two sports – Volleyball and Basketball makes it even more demanding.
As a dual-sport athlete, McCullough spends much of her time moving from one practice to another, managing schoolwork, and staying focused on her goals.
Many students struggle to balance school and one sport, but McCullough has found a rhythm that works for her. Her days are often packed with practices, workouts, and homework. Despite the busy schedule, she says staying organized is key to making it all work.
“It can get pretty hectic sometimes,” said McCullough, who is a starter for both the Volleyball and Basketball teams. “I try to stay organized and focus on one thing at a time.”
Playing two sports also requires a lot of physical and mental energy. Switching between teams from one season to the next means adjusting to different practices, coaches, and strategies. McCullough said communication and preparation help her stay on track.
“You have to be disciplined,” McCullough said. “If you fall behind on school or training, it gets really stressful, so I make sure to plan ahead.”
Her teammates and coaches admire the effort she puts into both sports. Balancing both basketball and volleyball takes dedication, but McCullough believes the experience is worth it.
Competing in two sports has helped her grow as an athlete and as a person.
“It’s definitely challenging, but it’s also really rewarding,” McCullough said. “I love both sports, so putting in the extra work is worth it.”
Even with a demanding schedule, McCullough continues to prove that determination and time management can make balancing two sports possible. Her commitment shows that success isn’t just about talent, it’s also about hard work and perseverance.
