Lucas Obermeyer’s Basketball Comeback

Lucas Obermeyer is someone whose dedication to basketball outweighs everything else in his mind.  His family says Obermeyer practically lives on a basketball court. But after a tough season where he experienced a major shooting slump, his confidence dropped.

“After the basketball season, I hit a shooting slump that brought my confidence down to the point where I didn’t want to do anything,” Obermeyer said.

However, instead of giving up, he decided to take action.

“One day, I got up and made it a priority to practice my shot every day, shooting at least 200 shots a day to get better,” he explained. “As I practiced, my confidence slowly started to come back.”

After a heartbreaking loss in the last year’s Sectional game, many players might take time off, but Obermeyer wanted to be different. He chose to put his summer on pause and focus on what mattered more: improving his game.

“This was the time to improve myself and my game, to reach new heights,” he said.

He made it a habit to go to any open gym he could find, working on his form and shooting technique, starting close to the basket and slowly stepping back. No matter where he was, Lucas was focused on practicing his skills.

“During the off-season and summer, Lucas started showing just how much he wanted to get better. He began focusing on his diet, hitting the gym more often, and studying film from past games to see where he could improve,” Obermeyer’s dad said.

Through this disciplined approach, Lucas Obermeyer’s confidence and mental toughness improved greatly. His commitment to self-improvement extended into the summer when he decided to join an AAU basketball team. This allowed him to travel around the U.S., getting a better feel for in-game situations while still enjoying time with his friends. It was a perfect example of his determination to become a better basketball player.
