The Penn Boys Cross Country team is looking to bounce back after a disappointing finish at the New Prairie Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Heading into Saturday Penn, ranked 13th in State, was looking for a bounce back after a disappointment the previous weekend. Although their performance was better than last week, they did not meet their standards.
Runners Kush Grewal and Jack Ryan headlined Penn both running under 17:00, with Grewal running a 16:43 coming first for Penn, but 14th in the race. Ryan ran a 16:54 and came in second for Penn but 20th overall.
Penn’s Varsity finished third behind Valpo and Northridge. Other notable performers were Jack Scalise, Kale Grewal, Tanner Mammolenti, and Brody Lederer.
The race was essentially a preview of what’s to come in a month at the Regional Competition. Penn hopes to gain ground on the other teams before then.
There was also a Freshmen-Sophomore race on Satuday. Penn’s Frosh-Soph race placed second behind Crown Point with Garett Probst coming first for Penn but 3rd overall with a time of 17:21, and Jackson Boyce finishing second for Penn but 7th overall with a time of 17:48. Other notable performers were Owen Newman, Nate Hannah, and John Guiterrez finishing in the top 20.
Penn’s JV team placed first, with four racers in the top five and six in the top ten. Scott Eubank finished first for Penn but second with a time of 18:23, and Weston St. Clair right behind him with a time of 18:25.
The Boys Cross Country team next competes at the Culver Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 28.
