Boys Soccer: Chris Miller’s late goal helps Penn upset No. 11 Northridge

The Penn Boys Soccer team persevered in a nailbiter on Tuesday, Aug. 20, using a goal by Chris Miller with three minutes left in the game to upset No. 11 Northridge, 3-2.

Andre Gomez helped Penn erase a 1-0 deficit in the first half, scoring an incredible goal from the corner of the 18-yard box, soaring over the keepers’ head and into the back of the net.

Salah Sirajuddin earned a penalty kick for the Kingsmen, and Gomez again had a beautifully placed shot into the top left corner from the penalty marker, putting Penn up 2-1.

Northridge knotted the score at 2-2 with about 10 minutes left in the game.

That set the stage for Miller’s game-winner.

With 3 minutes left on the clock, Asher Allen received the ball at left back. He picked out his pass to Miller, perfectly placing it between defenders just out of each other their reaches. As the ball zoomed past Northridge, Miller was there to bury the ball into the back of the net, scoring an exceptional game-winning goal for the ecstatic Kingsmen.

Aiden West and Kiran Nayee in the defense, along with Miller, Andrew Hochstettler, and Jake Cadotte in the midfield, had the Northridge offense locked down as the Raiders tried to move up the field. The Kingsmen won ball-after-ball from their opponents to take back down the field.
