On Friday, Apr. 21 the Penn JV Boys Track & Field Team won the Penn JV Invite with a score of 190.
Penn won the meet by almost 90 points over the next-best team Chesterton.
Freshman Runner Gavin Belzowski said, “The team did great, everybody gave it their all and we came away with the win because of it.”
Against some fierce competition, the Penn runners knew that if they were going to win, they would need some great performances from some of their fringe tournament team runners. They certainly exceeded those expectations, they had many people run great races and crush PRs. That is certainly true for Freshman runner Brayden Mainwaring, he ran a 2:10 in the open 800 and said this about the race “I think it went really well, I hadn’t run many 800s before so it felt really nice to run such a good time,” Mainwaring said.
Due to his performance, Mainwaring is now going to be running in the Max Truex varsity meet on Friday, April 28th.
He was not the only one who shocked people with their incredible times. Sophomore Tanner Mammolenti, Freshman Kush Grewal, Junior Gage Goralski, Senior Declan O’Donnell, Junior Keaton Nash, and Junior Philip Harris all won their respective events and helped to win the meet for the Kingsmen.
Grewal commented on his 3200M race, “The race was ok, I’m very happy with where I placed, but I think with some competition could’ve been much better.”
The JV team gets one more opportunity to shine in May at the JV NIC Meet.
