The Penn Lady Kingsmen Varsity Basketball Team secured another win at home on Thursday, Dec. 29 against the Carmel Greyhounds, with a final score of 50-43.
This win contributed to the start of a new winning streak for the Lady Kingsmen.
The Kingsmen and Greyhounds were pretty close in points at the beginning, even tying at the end of the third quarter, 12-12, but both teams brought the heat going into the fourth quarter, with a jump from 22-18 to 50-43.
“It was a tight game for the whole 32 minutes, and we prepared for that. We knew Carmel wasn’t going to roll over and let us do what we wanted. Starting off the game they controlled the tempo and physicality. They were trying to out-work us, out-hustle us and they did just that in the first half. At halftime, we weren’t focused on anything we were doing offensively or defensively, just that we needed to punch back. We changed our mentality and came out stronger in the second half, and were able to pull out the win,” said Sophomore Point Guard Jessa Troy.
Jessa Troy (22) was a key contributor to the Kingsmen’s success and ended the game with a total of 25 points and four rebounds.
Julia Economou (32) supported the Kingsmen tremendously, both offensively and defensively, with seven rebounds.
Peyton Brooks (34) and Lauren Walsh (24) also had excellent performances against the Greyhounds, both scoring nine points and four rebounds for the Kingsmen. Walsh also had three assists that helped carry the team toward victory.
The Lady Kingsmen continue to dominate and are furthering their standings in the Northern Indiana Conference. Right now, they are placed third, approaching the Marian Knights, who are placed second.
The Lady Kingsmen look to take on their next battle against the New Prarie Cougars at home on Tuesday, January 3rd.
