Penn High School Hockey Varsity Gold: Riem’s OT goal lifts Kingsmen past Carroll

Published on

Penn Kingsmen Gold opened their preseason with a heated rivalry matchup against the Carroll Chargers, looking to snap a three-year losing streak.

Just one minute into overtime, captain Connor Kranenburg created a 2-on-1 opportunity and found Aiden Riem.

Riem made no mistake, burying the puck short side to complete the comeback and snap the Kingsmen’s three-year losing streak to Carroll.

The Kingsmen answered a 2-0 deficit with an absolute snipe from Riem, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Moments later, Mason Mauer found the back of the net after receiving an NHL-caliber pass from Jaxon Daigle, tying the game at 2-2 heading into the third period.

Carroll regained the lead early in the third period but the Kingsmen refused to back down.

Grady Harrell came through with a huge bounce-back goal to tie the game at 3-3 and send the rivalry matchup to 3-on-3 overtime, leading to Riem’s game-winner in OT.
