Penn High School Boys Soccer: Kyle Zaber steps down as head coach due to increased business commitments

Penn High School Athletic Director Jeff Hart announced that Kyle Zaber has resigned as head coach of the Kingsmen Boys Soccer program after nine seasons.

Zaber celebrated his 100th career victory when Penn defeated Elkhart to lock up a Northern Indiana Conference Championship on Sept. 30. He finishes his Penn coaching career with a 100-47-22 record.

“Kyle has done a great job leading our boys soccer program over the past nine seasons, and we’re grateful for the time, energy, and commitment he’s given to our student-athletes,” Hart said. “He’s embraced what education-based athletics is all about and has helped leave the program in a great position moving forward. We appreciate everything Kyle has done for Penn and wish him the best as he takes on increased responsibilities professionally.”

Zaber accepted a position as a Senior Consultant at Qualtrics (Press Ganey), leading to increased professional duties outside of soccer. He has a BA in Psychology from the University of Kentucky. Zaber also has an MA in Sports and Performance Psychology from the University of Denver, an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and EdD in Sport & Performance Psychology from the University of Western States.

Zaber served as Penn’s head coach from 2018 through 2026, leading the Kingsmen to three Northern Indiana Conference championships, three sectional championships and one regional championship during his tenure.

The Kingsmen enjoyed a successful 2026 season, capturing the Northern Indiana Conference championship with a perfect 7-0 league record. Zaber was named the 2026 NIC Coach of the Year in Boys Soccer in recognition of the team’s accomplishments.

“I’d like to thank Penn High School and Jeff Hart for providing me the opportunity to coach boys’ soccer for the past nine seasons,” Zaber said. “The school, the Athletic Department, and the entire Kingsmen Athletics have been so supportive of our program, and I’ve been blessed to coach so many multi-sport athletes to help strengthen relationships with other programs within the school.

“I’m very grateful for the best coaching staff in the state (yes, I’m very biased!). It’s been a tremendous privilege coaching the Penn Boys Soccer student-athletes over the past nine seasons. Yes, they have given me a few grey hairs over the years, but the smiles and the laughs far exceed the greys.”

Zaber said that he looks forward to supporting the Kingsmen from the fan side and also looks forward to future successes by the Kingsmen.

“I’d like to thank my wife, Karlie, and my sons, Keagan, Finn, Declan, and Rory,” Zaber added. “They had to sacrifice time and energy so I could commit fully to the demands of coaching. Without their support and love, this journey would have not been possible.”

After an all-state high school career in the St. Louis-area and a successful college playing career at Dominican University, Zaber built an extensive coaching career. He began his coaching career at Lafayette High School in Lexington, Ky. He has had numerous club coaching duties, as well as a six-year stint as an assistant at Holy Cross College.
