Getting to Know: Vincent Horner

Vincent Horner is a varsity cornerback for the Penn High School football team. This is his third year with the Kingsmen.

How long have you been playing football and what made you want to play?

I’ve been playing football since I was in 1st grade. I wanted to play at a young age because I would watch football games with my dad as far back as I can remember.

What do you guys do during football practices? Is it the same thing every day?

It changes every day. Monday is film and conditioning, a lighter practice ending at 5:30 to Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday ending at 6:30 but we work on different things throughout those three days and then Friday is finally game day.

What’s your least and most favorite position? Why?

Punt returner is my least favorite position because if someone doesn’t block for you while you’re trying to catch the ball and you don’t see them, they can strike you. My favorite position is cornerback partially because that’s the position I play but also because it reminds me of playing football with my brothers when I get an interception.

How do you hope to prepare for the rest of the season? Do you plan on practicing outside of regular practices too to get better?

I hope to prepare for the rest of the season by coming to practice every day trying to get better and hitting the weight room a lot. Yes, I plan on practicing and lifting outside of normal practices by lifting and playing 7v7 with other players.

Who’s your biggest idol or favorite football player? How do they motivate you?

Richard Sherman is my favorite player. I liked the way he played the game and the way he was able to back up his trash talk on the field.
