Boys Soccer: Dawson Smith contributes as a Freshman

Dawson Smith headshot.

Dawson Smith is a freshman soccer player on the Penn Boys Soccer Varsity Team.

The Kingsmen, guided by head coach Kyle Zaber, finished with an impressive record of 14-5 on the season, recording a sectional final appearance as well.

Dawson started for the Kingsmen at left-back, helping hold the defense together for the Kingsmen. The Kingsmen allowed only 10 goals throughout the entire season, including only one goal allowed in their three sectional games. This strong defense played a crucial role in the overall success of the Kingsmen.

Dawson, being an outside back, was also able to help start the offensive attack, taking the ball down the wing and tacking a couple of assists on the scoresheet.

Senior Kingsmen Goalie Keegan Dame had nothing but great things to say about Dawson.

“Dawson is a very smart player,” Dame. “He has a very high game IQ and was reliable on and off the ball. If I ever got into trouble, I knew I
could look at him for an outlet. Playing with Dawson makes the game so much easier. Having a player you can look at whenever you may be in a sticky situation is extremely rare and helpful.”

Dawson is far from done with his soccer career. Being only a freshman, Dawson still has three years of high school eligibility, and hopes to play soccer in college as well.

Junior soccer player Lucas Eshowsky had this to say about playing with Dawson for one more year: “Dawson’s a very solid defender, and it will be great to be able to play with him for one more year.”
