Getting to Know Kush Grewal

Kush Grewal

Kush Grewal is a top competitor for the Penn Boys Cross Country Team and the Penn Boys Track and Field Team.

What made you start running cross country in the first place?: My parents made me start running at a young age and got me involved in Spartan races. 

Outside of running, what’s a hobby or activity you really enjoy?: I really enjoy playing Brawl Stars and Clash Royale to wind down after practice and school.

Do you have a favorite type of music or a song that always pumps you up?: “Off the Map” by SoFaygo, but primarily anything with a good beat. 

Who’s someone you look up to—athlete or not—and why?: I look up to Cristiano Ronaldo because of his discipline and motivation to be the best.

What’s a small goal you’re working on this year that isn’t about running?: I’m looking to get accepted into Indiana University, which is my dream school for either PT/OT.

How has your training been going so far this season—anything different from last year?: I had some setbacks with injuries, but I’ve been getting good training recently?

What’s the toughest course you’ve ran recently, and what made it challenging?: Ox Bow was pretty hard for me primarly due to coming back from injury.

Do you have a pre-race routine or mental strategy that helps you stay focused?: I tend to eat three hours before my race and drink beet juice right before I go to the starting line.

How does the team atmosphere feel right now—any big meets or rival schools you’re excited about?: I think were all getting along good and we our in sync right now. I’m excited for the Wildcat Classic. There will be many Top Ten teams in the state there.

With the weather starting to change, how are you adjusting your workouts or race prep?: The weather changing has been good for workouts and races as its getting cooler outside and easier for us as a team to run faster.
